Doug Sager stands out in the crowd, not only because he is 6’7” and hard to miss, but because he has an unparalleled work ethic and is driven by exceeding the expectations of his clients. Doug exudes superior service, attention to detail and high standards. Operating with integrity and confidentiality, your goals will become his goals.

Growing up in the Sonoma Wine Country, Doug is a Bay Area native who began his career during a downward cycle; that taught him to work comfortably in the most challenging of situations. He has built that career to become one of the top producers at his full-service East Bay brokerage, The Grubb Company. Doug’s clients can attest to his focus on meeting their needs and their needs alone and he has countless testimonials to that effect.

For sellers, Doug has a proven system that leads to successful results, often creating multiple offer situations, and his listings typically sell for an average of 112% of list price. His system combines proven techniques and uses the latest technology to make sure every possible buyer will be attracted to the home. For buyers, Doug is a skilled negotiator who is there every step of the way, from the moment buyers fall in love to the crafting and presenting of the offer, to the close of escrow and beyond.

Doug is proud to be a member of the historic and beautiful Sequoyah CC in the Oakland Hills. A former touring golf professional and All-American at UC Davis, goals and dreams have always been an important part of his life. Being part of others goals and dreams now fuels the fire inside him to succeed in real estate, his true calling.

Giving back is equally important to Doug. He served as the 2016 President of the Oakland | Berkeley Association of Realtors and volunteers his valuable time to promote home ownership as a Director at both the state (CAR) and national (NAR) levels. He is currently the President of his Neighborhood Association in the Sequoyah Hills and has served on the Board of The First Tee of the East Bay, an organization that offers under-privileged local youth the opportunity to learn the great game of golf while building character and life skills to help them succeed.

Doug’s passions include radio journalism. After graduating from UC Davis, Doug worked as a local news reporter for KQED News Radio and NPR. He also hosted a radio show on KDVS called “Family” – an LGBT-focused talk show where role models were interviewed on the air about their struggles and triumphs set to the musical background of Doug’s favorite house and electronic music.

Doug’s other passions include world travel, great food and wine and lighting up an room he enters.

Matt Detert brings his special brand of verve and unflappability to his career in real estate. His ability to attend to multiple deadlines, coordinate all points of contact, and address the unknowns with grace and precision make him well suited to his role assisting Doug Sager as his buyer’s agent. The two share a conviction that stellar service is paramount.

During his previous tenure as the Special Events Coordinator for one of Oakland’s dining scene pioneers, Bocanova, he made the complexities of planning and executing large scale events feel effortless for his clients. Homebuyers, too, can be confident that Matt will represent their best interests at every turn. His professional satisfaction comes from managing the details so that you can focus on your future.

Matt is always seeking thrilling new challenges. After high school in his native Iowa, Matt graduated with Highest Honors from UC Berkeley with a BA in English Literature. He has written and performed original poetry at the Marsh and several other local venues, spent weeks trekking the backcountry of Yosemite, and regularly competes on both the local and national levels showing rabbits.

When Matt isn’t stoking his passion for real estate, he is most at peace tending his urban farm in East Oakland. It was his desire to cultivate his own plot of land that led him to pursue home stewardship, but it was the thrill of the journey itself that inspired him to become a Realtor. Matt is truly invested in the innovative and eclectic spirit of the Bay Area. And if you have any lingering doubts about Matt’s preparedness for the sometimes intimidating and competitive atmosphere of the Bay Area real estate market, then you’ve likely never been to a rabbit show.
